Tasting Notes
Second time tasting this blind (first was almost three years ago) and once again I couldn't place it - kept reaching for some interesting Spanish white. Beautiful oxidative character with a pleasant saline thread. Initially reads sweeter, but then the acidity comes back and pulls everything together. Bruised apple, bakery, chalk, and citrus. Flint and chalk minerality. Everything is nicely integrated and cohesive. Chenin Blanc hiding in plain sight.
A charming bouquet of quince, fennel, bruised apple, bakery, chalk and citrus. Good acidity, structure and balance. Delicious and easygoing despite 14% abv. All my guesses were wrong - vintage, appellation, and producer.
This bottle was part of the Chenin Blanc blind tasting organised by Vova Ulianov.
