This wine isn't the easiest at first, but allowing it a few hours in a decanter is well worth it. While you lose some of the initial funkiness, what emerges is truly beautiful. The nose offers barnyard notes, red berries, raw meat, red flowers, earth, mushrooms, white pepper, and dried herbs. On the palate, it's well-balanced, juicy, and still slightly grippy, with flavors of compote, flowers, and underbrush.
Wonderful Poulsard. It bursts with a barnyard that quickly gives a way to red berries, raw meat, red flowers, mushrooms, white pepper and underbrush. Sophisticated, well-balanced and lively. Good tannin and a long and flavourful aftertaste.
The more I taste Poulsard, the more I fall in love (or was it the lovely company?). Initially, animal farm dominates in the nose (what the brett??), but with time it gives some space for cranberry, cherry, red flowers, mushrooms, white pepper, underbrush and even some raw meat. Juicy, almost perfectly balanced, sophisticated and simply delicious.
