Los Arrotos del Pendón is a single-varietal red wine made with Prieto Picudo by Raúl Pérez. The grapes for Los Arrotos del Pendón come from a 2-hectare plot located at an altitude of 900 meters in the town of Pajares de Otero, León. The plants are very old, about 110 years old, and produce high-quality, concentrated, and balanced grapes.
The clusters for Los Arrotos del Pendón are vinified whole, with the stems. After fermentation in stainless steel, it is aged for 24 months in used French oak barrels. The used barrels allow the wine to continue evolving and become more rounded.
Ratings
Los Arrotos del Pendón is my first encounter with Prieto Picudo, so I had no clear expectations - but Raúl Pérez proves, once again, that he's a magician. The nose is intense yet utterly charming: smoke, mulberry, blackberry, liquorice syrup, dried fruits, and warm spices, all unfolding in graceful layers.
On the palate, it's concentrated but seamless - structured, balanced, with a medium-plus body and just the right lift of freshness. Silky, poised, and deeply satisfying. And at 14.5% ABV? You'd never guess. Everything here feels effortless. A beautiful surprise.
