This wine has evolved from its once restrained character to reveal a beautifully (almost) open and charming bouquet. It encompasses notes of cherry, dried red flowers, the essence of a wet forest floor, and a hint of spices. The elegance and near-perfect balance of this wine are striking, with a juicy and extended finish that speaks to its quality. It's a beautiful wine that showcases a lovely style, truly rewarding those who have patiently waited for its development. And I am pretty sure it can get even better.

Tasted blind a set of 3 Pinot Noir wines. This one was also easy to guess due to elegance and austerity. Nose is full of dust, wild strawberry and cherry with subtle hints of autumn leaves. Well structured, long aftertaste with metallic aftertaste with flavours of cherry and leaves. Still very young. Complex, has potential, but needs time to get there.

Tasted on an event organised by Vasyl Kalinichenko.

About

The 2017 Beaune is a blend of 1er Crus Les Boucherottes and Les Epenotes from lieu-dits Les Prévoles and Les Beaux Fougets, which makes this 'village' wine quite prestigious. The fruit is hand-harvested, sorted and destemmed before vinification in big oak barrels using only indigenous yeasts with prolonged maceration. Ageing occurs in barriques with a small percentage of new oak.
