My first experience with Hermitage left me slightly disappointed. The nose was rich with dark fruits, particularly a meaty cherry aroma, and complemented by chocolate, spices, and leather. There were subtle hints of VA. The texture was viscous and syrup-like, with a very ripe palate. Personally, I would have preferred more acidity and a less warm aftertaste. It brought to mind some well-crafted Barossa wines, albeit with a natural European twist.
Despite my criticism, it's clear this wine is well-made. It simply didn't align with my personal preferences, especially standing out as an obvious outcast after enjoying so many gorgeous and delicate wines.
