Tasting Notes

3.6

Bottle variation, unfortunately. This one was not as deep as others. More crazy, sauerkraut, leather, blackberry, cherry, spices, chocolate. More complex and interesting on paper than in glass. But powerful and chewing. Desperately requires food.

3.8

I really adore this rustic and honest blend of Freisa and Barbera. Sniffing this wine is like sniffing sweaty deer sprinkled with dark chocolate powder. With decanting this opulent animal touch transforms into leather, chocolate stays, but now with cherry and some black fruits. Powerful and ripping tannins, tasting this wine is like chewing unripe green apple. But it's balanced and delicious.

I liked this release so much that I decided to take few bottles of it. Freisa and Barbera blend. Aroma evolving over the evening. Initially it opens up with liquor cherry in chocolate, then acetone come in for some time, then it transforms into fresh leather with chocolate powder, then you get black fruits with leather and dark chocolate. Rustic (in the very good way), medium-bodied, easy and friendly. Great company for an evening :)

Under the same name there are multiple wines. Some of them even share the label (with few minor differences). So it is a bit confusing. Nevertheless, I haven't tasted wines by Cascina Tavijn for too long and I was overly happy to do it again. Chocolate powder, leather, black fruits. Powerful tannins, fresh, young and friendly. Well balanced, long aftertaste. In the beginning it's even fizzy. Performs well solo, works great with food.

3.5

This one shares the same name (or maybe appellation) with the sunny-labeled wine. Much more simple. On the other hand, it's cleaner. Very fruit-forward and overly sweet for my taste. But really good (especially for its price).
