Explore the exceptional wines of Cascina delle Rose from Piedmont in our latest wine-tasting event. Hosted by Vasyl Velykanskiy, this intimate gathering featured Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto wines, showcasing the elegance and complexity of this family-run estate.

Our latest wine-tasting event took us to the heart of Piedmont, featuring the remarkable wines of Cascina delle Rose. Hosted by Vasyl Velykanskiy, this tasting was particularly special as Vasyl had long desired to explore these wines. Thanks to our mutual friend, Serhii Bohatyrchuk, we were able to secure five exquisite bottles brought from Europe specifically for this evening.

Cascina delle Rose, located in the Rio Sordo Valley of Barbaresco, is a small, family-run estate that epitomizes the rich viticultural heritage of Piedmont. The story of this winery began after World War II with Giovanna Rizzolio's grandparents, Beatrice and Ferdinando Rizzolio, who fell in love with the panoramic hills and the house they called home. In 1974, Giovanna moved permanently to the estate, continuing her grandparents' legacy.

In 1992, Giovanna, one of the pioneering women winemakers in the Langhe region, began bottling under the Cascina delle Rose label. Joined by her husband Italo and their two sons, Riccardo and Davide, the family transformed Cascina delle Rose into a beacon of traditional winemaking. The estate is renowned for its elegant and aromatic Barbaresco wines, particularly from the Rio Sordo and Tre Stelle crus.

Practising organic viticulture, the family works their steep hillside vineyards by hand, ensuring a pure expression of the terroir. Their wines, produced with minimal intervention, highlight the unique characteristics of each vineyard, offering a true taste of Piedmont. This tasting allowed us to delve into the nuanced and deep world of Cascina delle Rose's offerings.

A special thank you to Vasyl Velykanskiy for driving this event, Serhii Bohatyrchuk for making it happen by figuring out how to bring these bottles from Europe to Ukraine, and Lo Bar for their warm hospitality. Your efforts made this tasting a truly memorable experience.

Cascina delle Rose A Elizabeth Dolcetto d'Alba 2022

This wine secured the 🏅 5th place in our wine tasting lineup.

This Dolcetto d’Alba is produced from the assembly of two vineyards, one located in the village of Barbaresco and one in the village of Neive. Born from old clones and from a particular selection, the grapes are fermented and aged in steel and cement. The harvest is always done by hand, with great attention to detail. The pressing is mechanical, allowing a gentle process that expels the whole stalks without crushing the seeds. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur in steel tanks, with maceration lasting around 10-15 days depending on the year. The wine then ages in steel and concrete, ensuring a pure expression of the vine and territory. Bottling is done in the waning moon phase, with no filtrations or clarifications, preserving the wine's structure.
